Music has an alphabet and a vocabulary. Its alphabet is the Scale and its vocabulary is the Chord. If you know the alphabets of various scales and enlarge your vocabulary of chords you will be able to express your musical ideas as explicit chords and scales. In addition, the music you hear will be recognized as belonging to specific scales and chords. This is the part that most beginning musicians fail to understand. They reach a basic level of expertise and can not seem to progress much further. This is because they saturate what is possible using explicit memory alone. Only when chords are organized into larger landscapes using Scales is it possible to exceed what is achievable by memorizing the chords of a song. The Scale is the underlying blueprint of each song. The author of this CD-ROM taught guitar 1976-1980 and played keyboards in several music groups.
